BFF’s Get Free: Erica Caines

Erica Caines (age 37 at the time of recording) is the Vice Chair the Coordinating Committee of Black Alliance for Peace, currently living in Baltimore, MD. She is also a member of the Maryland Electoral Party. It's a Black workers’ party called Ujima People's Progress Party. She is one of four editors of Hood Communist blog, and I am the founder of Liberation Through Reading. Erica shares her relationship to Black feminisms through reading Black women’s literature. She continues by reflecting on her international organizing through the anti-imperialist organization, BAP. In Erica’s own words, “my hope for Black feminism is that there's more clarity, being led by Black feminists, on concepts of colonialism. It's not that men are bad, but it's a system. And it's a system that's backed by and it's supported by capitalism, imperialism, colonialism. Those things. My other hope is that, you know, we talk about Black feminism in the framework of socialism.”
