BFF’s Get Free: Samantha Elizabeth Master

Samantha Elizabeth Master (age 35 at the time of recording) is the co-founder and co-lead of Free Black Mamas DMV, a community and Black women-led bail fund. She is also the communicator for Organizing Black, where she is “tasked with the responsibility of talking to Black 18 to 35-year-olds about freedom and liberation and the world we deserve and want to build”.

Reflecting back on her childhood experiences of witnessing domestic violence, Samantha understood the solidarity between Black women. Exposure to Black queer literature such as the book Black Like Us or the love letters between Eslanda Robeson (Paul Robeson’s wife) and her lesbian lover was transformative. These experiences and others while she was part of Black Youth Project 100 shaped her Black queer feminist politicization.
